At IID, we believe that every deserving student should have access to a world-class design education — regardless of their financial background. Our scholarship programme is one of the most comprehensive in Central India's design education sector.

Across merit, need, talent and academic excellence, IID disburses over ₹45 lakhs annually in scholarship support — enabling 140+ students each year to pursue their creative ambitions without financial compromise.

Types of Scholarships

IID offers four distinct scholarship categories, each designed to recognise and reward a different dimension of a student's potential and circumstances.

Merit

Up to 50%

IID Merit Scholarship

Awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance and design aptitude in the entrance evaluation. Renewed annually based on CGPA.

Based on entrance score + portfolio

Need-Based

Up to 100%

IID Access Grant

Full and partial fee waivers for students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds who show strong creative potential. Evaluated through income documentation and a personal interview.

Income-based assessment

Talent

Up to 30%

IID Creative Talent Award

Recognising exceptional creative portfolios, artistic ability and design innovation. Open to students who demonstrate unusual creative range in the portfolio submission process.

Portfolio evaluation

Excellence

Up to 25%

IID Academic Excellence Award

Awarded to continuing students who maintain an exceptional CGPA above 8.5 throughout their programme — celebrating sustained academic and design excellence.

Eligibility

Who Can Apply

Our scholarship process is open, inclusive and designed to identify genuine merit and need at every level. Here is what we look for:

Important Note

All scholarship awards are contingent on securing admission to IID. Apply for admission first — scholarship assessment follows automatically for eligible candidates.

Educational Qualification

Minimum 50% aggregate in 10+2 (or equivalent) from a recognised board. All streams accepted — Science, Commerce, Arts and Vocational.

Age Requirement

Applicants must be between 17 and 25 years of age as of July 1 of the year of admission. Age relaxation may apply for reserved category candidates.

Creative Portfolio

For Talent and Merit scholarships, submission of a creative portfolio (physical or digital) is recommended. The portfolio is evaluated for originality, craft and design thinking.

Financial Documentation

For need-based Access Grant, annual family income must be below ₹6 lakh per annum. Income certificate and Form 16 / ITR are required as supporting documents.

Entrance Examination

All scholarship applicants must appear for and qualify in IID's National Design Entrance Examination. Scores above 75 percentile are generally considered for merit scholarship review.

Renewal Criteria

Scholarships are reviewed annually. Renewal requires a minimum CGPA of 7.0 and satisfactory attendance. Students on academic warning are not eligible for renewal.

Apply to IID

Complete the standard IID admission application, including entrance exam registration and portfolio submission where applicable.

Document Review

The Scholarship Committee reviews your academic records, entrance scores, portfolio and financial documentation to determine scholarship category eligibility.

Assessment Interview

Shortlisted candidates for need-based and talent scholarships attend a 20-minute personal assessment interview with a panel of two faculty members.

Award Confirmation

Successful recipients receive their official IID Scholarship Award Letter, detailing the scholarship type, percentage waiver and renewal conditions.

Can I apply for a scholarship after being admitted?
Yes — merit and academic excellence scholarships are assessed automatically upon admission confirmation. For need-based and talent scholarships, applications are reviewed on a rolling basis within the first 30 days of admission. Students are encouraged to submit scholarship documentation promptly.
Are scholarships available for all three years of the programme?
Most IID scholarships are renewable for all three years of the programme, subject to the renewal criteria being met each year. The renewal review occurs at the end of each academic year, typically in May–June.
Can I hold more than one scholarship simultaneously?
Students may be eligible for only one IID institutional scholarship at a time. However, IID scholarships can be combined with government scholarships (including state and central government schemes), subject to documentation. The combined waiver cannot exceed 100% of tuition.
What is the scholarship disbursement timeline?
Scholarship award letters are issued within 10 working days of the assessment decision. The scholarship is applied as a direct reduction in tuition fees at the time of fee payment for each semester, so students never need to pay full fees and wait for reimbursement.
Is there a separate application form for scholarships?
No separate form is needed for merit and academic excellence scholarships — these are assessed automatically. For need-based and talent scholarships, students complete a brief supplementary scholarship form available from the Admissions Office or downloadable from the student portal post-admission.
